On March 23rd, the museum hosted the 2019 Pinewood Derby for local area Scouts. The five different groups of scouts (Webelos, Bear, Wolf, Tiger, and Lion) arrived at different times during the day and had the entire museum to look at before and after their races. The day was very fun and was unlike any event we have had. The museum provided drinks and cookies for everyone as well as the trophies for the big winners.
We also had Eric Filgueiras stop by with his Porsche 911 race car. He took time to talk about racing and his car with the many curious kids. We can't thank him and his father enough for providing their time and for spending time with the kids. Eric is a graduate from Space Coast High School and has raced in several disciplines including F2000 and Historic Sports Car racing.
In addition, those left after the event, including most of the Grand Champion Scouts, got a ride along in a Corvette on the autocross. This couldn't have been possible without the help of the Florida Corvette Club. Around 25 kids and even some parents got to experience what all the excitement is about at a reasonable speed. Overall, the day was a huge success and a great time. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.
